White mulberry

White mulberry leaves contain an active compound called 1-deoxynojirimycin, which acts as a natural inhibitor of alpha-glucosidase, a key enzyme in carbohydrate digestion. By blocking its action, sugar absorption is slowed, helping to reduce glucose and insulin spikes by up to 40% after meals.
A clinical study from the Oxford Brookes Centre for Nutrition and Health (🔗 see study) showed that white mulberry leaf extract significantly reduces the glycemic and insulin response after ingesting 75g of sugar. In this double-blind trial with 38 participants, those taking the extract showed lower glucose and insulin levels compared to the control group.
Furthermore, the extract was well tolerated, and no adverse effects were reported, supporting its use as a natural aid in glucose control and the prevention of type 2 diabetes.
